Playa de Arinaga is located in the municipality of Agüimes on the southeast coast of Gran Canaria.
In addition to a beach of golden sand and pebbles and sheltered waters Arinaga has a beach promenade of more than three kilometers. There, restaurants and bars offer their services to visitors with views of the Atlantic.
Near the beginning of the promenade to the south is Las Salinas, a salt farm which collects sea water which drains as the tide recedes to leave filtered salt remaining. In the opposite direction to the far north of the promenade is located Hornos de Cal, a museum recalling the time when the area supplied lime to the island.
The town has a port built to meet the needs of the large industrial area of Arinaga. Due to political dispute the port has remained closed since its completion.
Arinaga, is well known to the locals canaries for the very prevailing trade winds in summer. It provides a variety of water sports such as bodyboarding, windsurfing, fishing and diving. An important architectural symbol of Arinaga is a lighthouse built in the late nineteenth century, which is located between the town and neighbouring Playa del Cabron, a small beach well known for the marine reserve abundant with ocean fauna and fish and very popular for diving.
